What This Does

Canva's Magic Write feature helps you create a polished, visual coverage summary document that you can email or print for a client — without being a designer. Instead of sending a plain Word document or a dense policy declaration page, you can send something that looks professional and is easy to read.

Before You Start

  • You have a free Canva account at canva.com (no paid plan required for basic Magic Write)
  • You have the key coverage details from the policy: limits, deductibles, coverages included/excluded
  • You're working on a computer (Canva works in a web browser)

Steps

1. Log in to Canva and start a new design

Go to canva.com and log in. Click Create a design → search for "Insurance" or "Policy Summary" to find relevant templates. Alternatively, select A4 Document for a clean, printable format.

2. Choose a template

Select a clean, simple template — look for ones with a clear header, section boxes, and icon areas. The "Business Brief" or "Service Summary" templates work well.

3. Open Magic Write

Click anywhere on the design, then look for the Magic Write option — it appears as a sparkle icon in the text menu, or you can access it via Apps in the left sidebar. Click it.

4. Describe what you want

In the Magic Write prompt box, type: "Write a plain-language coverage summary for a homeowners insurance policy. Include sections for: dwelling coverage, personal property, liability, deductible, and what's NOT covered. Keep each section to 2-3 sentences."

Click Generate. Magic Write produces formatted text for each section.

5. Replace with the actual coverage details

Click into each text box and replace the generated text with your client's actual limits and details. Add the client's name, policy number, and renewal date in the header.

6. Download and send

Click ShareDownload → choose PDF Standard. Attach to your email to the client.

Real Example

Scenario: A homeowners client calls confused about what their policy covers after seeing a news story about water damage. You want to send them something visual they can keep.

What you do: Use the Magic Write prompt: "Explain homeowners insurance coverage for water damage — what's usually covered (burst pipes) vs what's not (flooding). Write for someone with no insurance background. Two short paragraphs."

What you get: Clear, readable text you drop into a clean Canva design and email within 15 minutes — something far better than forwarding the 50-page policy document.

Tips

  • Save your finished design in Canva — you can duplicate it for future clients and just update the details (5 minutes instead of 15).
  • Use the same brand colors as your agency if possible — add your agency logo to the header for a more professional look.
  • Magic Write is most helpful for the explanatory text sections; the actual coverage limits must come from you since the AI doesn't have access to the real policy.
