What you'll accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll be able to drop a carrier bulletin (rate filing, appetite change, new product announcement) into ChatGPT and get a 5-bullet-point summary of what actually matters to your daily work — in under 3 minutes, instead of reading a 10-page PDF you'll probably skim and forget.
What you'll need
Carrier bulletins arrive in a few formats:
If the PDF has complex formatting (tables, charts) that doesn't copy well, try copying just the sections that look important — usually sections headed "Changes," "Effective Date," "New Requirements," or "Affected Classes."
Use this format:
Summarize the key points of this carrier bulletin that affect an insurance CSR handling [personal lines / commercial lines / both]. Focus on: effective dates, rate changes, appetite changes, new submission requirements, and anything that changes how we process policies. Give me 5 bullet points maximum.

ChatGPT will return a concise summary. Review it for accuracy — if something seems off or you need more detail on one point, ask a follow-up: "Tell me more about the change to contractor submission requirements."
Copy the bullet points into a quick Slack message, email, or team chat: "Quick summary of today's [Carrier Name] bulletin: [paste bullets]"
This keeps your whole team current without everyone having to read the full document.
Keep a running document (in Notes, OneNote, or Google Docs) with summaries of bulletins by carrier. When a policyholder asks "why did my rate change?" you have a searchable record of what carriers changed and when.
Rate change bulletin:
Summarize this rate filing bulletin. Tell me: which lines/states are affected, what's the percentage change, effective date, and whether it applies to new business, renewals, or both. Plain language, 5 bullets.

Appetite change bulletin:
Summarize the appetite changes in this carrier bulletin for a personal/commercial lines CSR. Focus on what we can no longer write, what new classes they're accepting, and any new submission requirements. 5 bullets.

New product announcement:
Summarize this new product announcement. What is it, who's it for, what does it cover, what does it cost, and how do we submit an application? 5 bullets for a CSR audience.
